Four kinds of volatile oils from the leaves, flowers, fruit and bark of Litsea cubeba Pres were obtained by steam distillation. The effectiveness of the oils on controling termites was (Coptotemes formosanus Shiraki) investigated. The results indicated that oil preparations. At application levels under 1.5% of the oil, termite activities are not inhibited. The oils of bark and leave are found to be most effective while the oil of fruit is next and the oil of flower the least effective. Ease of collection and handling for the leaves may render them to be viable sources of termite repellent.
