Successful Treatment of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococus Aureus Meningitis with Linezolid in Catheter-Related Bacteremia in a Hemodialysis Patient

血液透析病患導管相關菌血症併發MRSA腦膜炎,成功以Linezolid治療

Bacteremia in a hemodialysis patient with cuffed tunneled catheter is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Native arteriovenous fistulas or vascular prostheses are the preferred forms of vascular access, but their creation may not always be possible. Catheter-related bacteremia occurs chiefty because of Gram-positive organisms and staphylococcus aureus is one of the leading causes. Here, we described a 54-year-old female with catheter-related bacteremia complicated by methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) meningitis, unresponsive to intravenous vancomycin therapy. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of MRSA meningitis, a nearly always fatal disease in dialysis patients, treated successfully with intravenouss linezolid.
