We evaluated 32 patients undergoing abdominal computed tomography (CT) in both supine and prone positions to determine any change in colonic positions, especially related to the kidney. The amount of bowel gas played a role in the dorsal migration of the colon. If gas distended colon was found by KUB, colon injury could be avoided by evaluating its position to the kidney before percutaneous nephrostomy and/or nephrolithotomy.
