A total of 162 dilations of esophageal strictures were performed on 41 patients over a 6-year period. Fifty one percent of the patients had Gl malignancy while forty one percent had corrosive injury. Both Maloney bougienage and balloon dilation were employed. Balloon dilation is the most successful method of dilating esophageal strictures and has least complications. The most common complication of corrosve injuries is the development of stricture and balloon dilation is a good method to overcome it.
