High-resolution fast spin-echo (FSE) magnetic resonance (MR) technique has been reported to delineate anatomic detail and localize structural abnormality of the hippocampus very well. MR findings of the hippocampus are reported as found in a two and a half-year-old child who had complex febrile seizures and febrile status epilepticus associated with an ipsilateral choroidal fissure cyst; the FSE MR technique was used. There was signal and morphologic change of the hippocampus with coexisting ipsilateral choroidal fissure cyst in this patient. The possible cause of status epilepticus and unilateral vulnerability of the hippocampus was presumed related to the choroidal fissure cyst. FSE MRI findings of the hippocampus with coexisting choroidal fissure cyst in status epilepticus has rarely been reported. Pathophysiology of hippocampal change in epilepsy is discussed.
