A Secure Cardiovascular Image and Information Management System for Today's Healthcare

Heart-related disease is consistently one of the leading causes of death in the U.S, even though digital echo labs have been available. What is missing in the link perhaps is a well designed cardiovascular image and information management system that streamlines the clinical process in cardiology? This paper describes the design of a secure CIIMS system that meets today's healthcare environment. Built on a simplified information model healthcare IT technologies, this CIIMS consists of the following components: image viewing and manipulation, image analysis, interpretation, reporting, access control, and data security, each of which is described in sequence in the paper. Remarks on implementation and performance are also briefly included.
