Rethinking of Malaysia Chinese Identities in Transition: Globalization, Democratization and Rise of China

摘要


華人移民馬來西亞有著長遠的歷史,群體規模及影響力亦為可觀,關於其身份政治議題的討論,多關注華人在多元種族環境下的生存策略及文化認同。族裔邊界理論指出,在繼受的語文底蘊之外,一個族群自我形象及認同,也受到特定政經結構及族群互動所形朔。基此,本文認為,掌握經濟全球化、馬國民主化及中國崛起等晚近發展,將有助於理解當代馬來西亞華人屬性的變貌,拓深既有族裔理論的解釋力。

Development of Chinese community in Malaysia has a long history, Researcher pay more attention to how Chinese survival in a multi-racial society, and how their cultural identity and development strategy. Ethnic boundary theorist argued that ethnic self-image and identity not just following their language and cultural backgrounds, but also shape by specific political and economic structure and the interaction between other communities. Based on the above, this paper point out that economic globalization, democratization and the rise of China are key factors to understanding the formation of Chines identities in Malaysia. The finding will provide new ideas for theory of ethnic boundary.
