Forests can produce timber as well as non-timber goods and services. In the era of environmental forestry, there are multiple benefits of forests. The purpose of this research was to assess the total economic benefits of forest ecosystem management. The total economic value (TEV) of the forest includes use values and non-use values. The Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) was used in this research to estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) for conserving natural resources at the LiuKuei Experimental Forest. Results from 1,200 personal interviews indicated that people from the local area would pay an average (WTP) of NT$108 per household per year for the investigated area, while non-local visitors would pay NT$334. No embedded bias was found in the results. The annual TEV for conserving natural resources of the LiuKuei Experimental Forest is between NT$1.565 and 2.757×10^9.
