This report described the nursing experience of caring a school-age child after undergoing strabismus surgery in the recovery room. The experience took place over a period of three hours from 11:00 to 14:00 on January 20, 2013. The author used observation, evaluation, and direct care to collect data. After establishing a relationship of trust with the patient and the mother, the following nursing care needs were confirmed: postoperative wound pain, anxiety caused by the unfamiliar environment and medical treatments, and the mother's nervousness facing the role of caregiver. The author considered the development level of the child and helped the patient and the mother get immediate care during their stay in the recovery room. The patient's pain was alleviated and the anxiety and feelings of insecurity were reduced. Postoperative care instructions were given to the mother to enable her to participate in her child's care and ensure continuity of care after the patient's return home.
