服務學習能提供學生與社會連結的機會,對醫學院學生而言,在成為一位優秀的專業醫事人員的養成過程中,同理與關懷的涵養更顯重要。本研究目的在探討服務學習方案介入後對醫學院學生在自我效能、公民意識、社會關懷與多元尊重之提升成效,以及對服務學習之認同感、滿意度、情感體驗及自我成長。以醫學院醫學系、牙醫系、藥學系、護理系,一、二年級學生為研究封象,藉由結構式問卷調查進行資料收集及分析。服務學習方案執行時間自2010年3月至8月,學生分別於16個安養機構及1個海外服務隊參與服務學習,全程修課人數共301人,問卷回收共得有效問卷125份。本次服務學習課程學生之滿意度平均3.72±0.53分(計分方式最小值為1分,表「非常不滿意」最大值為5分,表「非常滿意」),在服務學習課程介入役,學生在自我效能、公民意識、社會關懷與多元尊重面向皆有顯著提升。研究亦發現在情感體驗面向,男性感受到較大之情感壓力,女性則有較高之個人滿足及自我成長;一年級學生在課程認同感的增加,及情感體驗尤其是個人滿足面向,皆高於二年級學生,而至國外服務學習的學生,則比國內的學生在多元尊重面向有更高的提升,於課程滿意度及自我成長上亦有較深的體會。根據本研究之結果,學生透過服務學習受益良多,課程有助於幫助醫學院學生培養公民意識、社會關懷與多元尊重,亦能提升學生之自我效能,服務學習課程是一個可以增進改善學生全人教育、人文關懷理念的有效方式。
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the various service learning programs available to medical students who attend the National Defense Medical Center; these were assessed in the areas of self-efficacy, civic awareness, social care, identification, satisfaction, emotional experience and self-growth. The service learning programs involved a total of 301 students in their first and second years at the medical school from March 2010 through August 2010. These students participated in service learning for 10 days either domestically at 16 local nursing homes or as members of overseas service teams.Among the students who replied to the questionnaire, the satisfaction assessment of students involved in the service learning programs produced a mean score of 3.72±0.53 points. After participation in the service learning program, the self-efficacy item score, the civic awareness item score, and the social care item score increased significantly. In terms of emotional experience, the results demonstrated that the male students felt greater emotional stress while participating, whereas the female students showed higher scores with respect to personal satisfaction and personal growth. In terms of personal satisfaction, the scores for the first-year students were higher than those of the sophomores. When the students who participated in service learning abroad were compared to those who undertook local service learning, the course satisfaction and self-growth of the latter students increased more. Our research highlighted the application of service learning programs as a useful and effective method for improving the medical education of Taiwanese medical students.
