飼養者的特質影響著飼養犬貓的習慣,從臺北市文山、士林及南港三個行政區調查寵物飼養率以及寵物飼養戶的特質及其飼養態度,經由隨機抽樣到戶訪問取得6,327份有效問卷,包括未飼養寵物的家庭計5,014份及有飼養寵物的家庭計1,313份,推估此三行政區飼養寵物家庭的比率為20.8%,其中以犬飼養戶數為主佔71.3%。寵物的來源以他人贈送(36.9%)及購買(36.5%)為主,認養的比率只佔9.2%。完成寵物登記的比率為45.0%,以不知道動物保護法中有強制規定為辦理寵物登記為主因;56.1%的寵物未施行絕育手術,以還想讓寵物繁殖下一代為其主因;寵物施打狂犬病疫苗率達74.4%,而未施打狂犬病預防疫苗則以時間忙碌為主因;此外,有51.4%的飼養戶會定期帶寵物至醫療院所進行健康檢查,絕大部份的飼養戶(91.0%)願意付出的醫事費用不到一萬元。這些資訊將可提供主管機關未來政策制訂以及動物醫療照護產業規劃之依據。
The characteristics of pets owner affects the attitude of caring for pets. Data were collected from 1,313 households with pets which comprised 20.8% of the 6,327 randomly-selected households that were contacted in three administraive districts (Wenshen, Shilin and Nangang) of Taipei City by means of door-to-door questionaires. Among the 1,313 pet-owning households, 71.3% were identified as households with dogs. The two most predominant methods of obtaining pets were through gifts (36.9%) and purchasing (36.5%); however, only 9.2% were from adoption. Of the households with pets, only 45.0% were registered. The main reason for not registering their pets was because the owners were unaware that it was obligatory according to animal protection law. The rates for failing to neuter their pets were 56.1% with the main reason as wanting their pets to breed. The rabies vaccination rate was 74.4% with the the owners citing that they were ”too busy” as the main reason for not vaccinating. In addition, 51.4% of the owners brought their pets for periodic health exams; however, 91.0% of the owners stated they would pay no more than $10,000 NTD for the medical costs. This information is useful for areas of all animal health and welfare and can provide information as to program planning and cost benefit analysis.
