Review of Teamwork Observational Instruments

Medical teamwork impacts the quality of healthcare, patient safety and the life of patients. Recently, the Taiwan Healthcare system has promoted medical teamwork aggressively. As there is no teamwork observational instrument available in Taiwan, it is hard to understand medical teamwork in the Taiwan Healthcare system without measurement; therefore, this study reviewed and critiqued 10 common teamwork observational tools: MTB-MODe, MDT-TAT, OTAS, NOTECHS, EPOC, TEAM, TMCC, CTS, Co-ACT and TPOP in an attempt to clarify this situation and assess which tools could be possibly suitable tools for the Taiwan situation. This study can help medical professionals select appropriate instruments for assessment of the results gained from medical teamwork.
