The meaning and function of zhuăn-zhù have always been controversial. Professior qiú xī-guī even said that: ”zhuăn-zhù is not essential for studying liù-shū.” However, the author believes that the evidences of zhuăn-zhù & jiă-jiè are everywhere in ”shuō-wén-jiě-zì”. The following three examples also tell us their existence today. (The form abridges) Zhuăn-zhù & jiă-jiè have complementary functions in Chinese. Unlike western languages, jiă-jiè implies and allows various meanings to be communicated well and doesn't have to make more characters. However, if more meanings need to be clearly presented, zhuăn-zh creative method can be applied to make new characaters. They have made great contributions in the transition of our culture and civilization. They are also part of the reasons that we can still study Chinese literature with little or no difficulty.
