The report applied Roy's adaptation theory to describe the nursing care experience with a patient suffering hypopharynx cancer recrudescence. From May 26, 2010 to June 14, 2010, there were five major adaptation problems: ineffective airway clearance, death anxiety, powerlessness, imbalanced nutrition: less then body requirements and acute pain. To alleviate these problems, we established therapeutic relationship with the patient and provide individualized care to the patient. We kept patience to encouraged patient to talk about his illness and whatever problems he was encountering, so that patient was more willing to perform self-care and improve the relationship with families, which made better adaptation to his quality of life during the cancer recrudescence phase..
