The aim of this study was to examine the university and college basketball coach management ability. Using ”university and college basketball coach management ability scale” as study instrument (Jih-Yu Yang'2002). This scale including four factors which were ”leadership ability”, ”organization ability”, ”planning ability” and ”controlling ability”. The four factors are as followings: 1. Coach leadership ability: The coach used his own style, leading the basketball team to go for the goal. 2. Coach controlling ability: The coach want to understand basketball team work, and team target appraisal. To compare the anticipated target and actual target, and according to the evaluated data, make the further improvement in order to reach the target. 3. Coach planning ability: Coach must to set the target of basketball team in advance and make decision of how the target to be done, the guideline for the future directions. 4. Coach organization ability: Basketball team had special assignment for every player who worked in the team for the team target. Subjects were the college students who took part in 2002 Taiwan Chung-Cheng Cup Basketball competition. A total of 360 questionnaires were sampled, deemed usable due to the incomplete responses, 264 firms responded.A73% usable response rate. Based on the result of this study, we make some suggestion to the basketball coaches of university and college, and to be the guideline for management. Data was treated with T-test analysis. The results are as followings: 1. Male and female player had no significant difference in ”planning ability”, ”organization ability”, ”leadership ability” and ”controlling ability”. (P<.05) 2. Public and private school players had significant difference in ”organization ability”, ”leadership ability” and ”controlling ability”. (P<.05) 3. Male and female coaches had significant difference in ”planning ability” ”organization ability”, ”leadership ability” and ”controlling ability”. (P<.05) 4. No significant difference between male and female players. (P<.05) 5. Public and Private school players had significant difference in basketball coach management ability. (P<.05) 6. Male and female coaches had significant difference in basketball coach management ability. (P<.05)
