Purpose: To investigate the effects of 12 weeks of power fitness yoga on basic anthropometry, percent body fat and blood lipid parameters in middle age women. Methods: Twenty-four females were assigned to yoga group (40.25 ± 6.28 years) or control group (45.25 ± 8.41 years). Yoga group performed a 90 min power fitness yoga program once a week for 12 weeks and control group without the intervention. Before and after 12 weeks program, basic anthropometry and body composition were measured. Fasting blood sample were also taken to determine the triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), as well as calculated the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), atherosclerosis index (AI) and cholesterol index. The data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA with mixed-design and significance was accepted at α = .05. Results: Yoga group showed a significant decrease in percent body fat (29.20% ± 2.80% vs. 31.44% ± 2.81%, p < .05), TC (171.75 ± 27.05 vs. 185.33 ± 34.64 mg/dl, p < .05) and LDL-C (103.65 ± 27.10 vs. 116.92 ± 38.90 mg/dl, p < .05) after 12 weeks of power fitness yoga program. No significant changes were shown in control group. Conclusions: Twelve weeks of power fitness yoga program results in marked decrease in lipid profiles of percent body fat, TC and LDL-C.
