Acupuncture for treating chronic respiratory disease s shows good efficacy but often requires a prolonged treatment course. In order to enhance the accessibility for the treatment, we took advantage of the absorbable catgut and embedded it into the acupoint of patients with allergic rhinitis, which in theory could long-term stimulate the meridian to have therapeutic efficacy. We then did quantitative analysis of total serum allergens and immunoglobulin E (Ig-E) before and after treatment, and it showed significant decrease after treatment. This patient also got clinical improvement without any complication occurred. To use embedded catgut in acupoint to treat allergic rhinitis is convenient, safe, and effective therapy.
