We presented a 60 year-old female with chronic hepatitis C for 32 years. She didn't be regularly followed up in a hospital because there were not severe symptoms. The patient was referred to our outpatient department with continually traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy since 2009. She was suffering from severe influenza with series symptoms include poor appetite, dizziness, sore throat, fatigue and chest tightness in May 2011. Laboratory studies showed elevation of transaminase levels (aspartate aminotransferase [AST]: 324 and alanine aminotransferase [ALT]: 510 U/ml.) Acute exacerbation of chronic hepatitis C was diagnosed. In the other hand, TCM diagnosis was liver depression with spleen deficiency and dampness obstruction of middle energizer. Principle of fortifying the spleen with harmonize the stomach was used. After three times of treatment, there was significant improvement of all her symptoms and transaminase decreased to normal level (AST: 32, ALT: 60 U/ml.).
