The purpose of this study was to explore both different ways to find the differences of two methods of beautification of urban viaduct in their effects on measure drivers' psychological (i.e., Necker Cube Pattern Control Test and anxiety levels) and physiological (i.e., electromyography and heart rate) responses. We used video simulation to present two beautification scenes of viaducts, one using vegetation and the other painting, to participating ”drivers”. After watching these simulations, the participants viewing vegetation had lower anxiety levels than those viewing painting viaducts. No significant differences were found in other items of psycho-physiological responses to the two treatments. Vegetation could play an important role in reducing the negative emotional impacts of viaducts.
