Differences of Learning Motivation among Types of Ball Games for Physical Education in University Students

The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of ARCS learning motivation among genders and types of ball games in university physical education. 1,158 samples from five universities in Northern Taiwan whom, were enrolled ball games as physical education class were participated in this study. ARCS learning motivation data were obtained at the end of course. Four types of statistical methods were used to analyze the data. The findings of this study were indicated below. First, male students whom enrolled ball games scored significantly higher to female students in terms of ARCS learning motivation. Second, students whom enrolled target type of ball games scored significantly higher to students whom enrolled invasion and net/wall types of ball games in terms of learning motivation, attention, and relevance. Third, male students whom enrolled invasion, fielding/run-scoring, and target types of ball games scored significantly higher to female students whom enrolled the same type of ball games in terms of learning motivation, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Furthermore, Male students whom enrolled target type of ball games scored significantly higher to whom enrolled net/wall type of ball games in terms of learning motivation, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Female students whom enrolled net/wall and target types of ball games scored significantly higher to whom enrolled invasion type of ball games in terms of relevance. The results of this study demonstrated that male students in university were significant superior to female on learning motivation in physical education, particularly in invasion, fielding/run-scoring, and target types of ball games. Students whom enrolled target type of ball games displayed superior learning motivation to whom enrolled invasion and net/wall types of ball games, especially the male students whom enrolled target type of ball games were superior to whom enrolled net/wall type of ball games, female students whom enrolled net/wall and target types of ball games were superior to whom enrolled invasion type of ball games.
