The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of support leg for back kick during the attack phase. Seven male taekowndo athletes(age: 21.0 ± 2.0 year old, height: 180.4 ± 4.4 cm, weight: 69.1 ± 26.1 kg) performed the back kick. The left leg was the attack leg, and right leg was the support leg. The equipment and devices included an accelerometer (CXL50LP3), Biovsion system, two high-speed cameras (Redleke) and Kwon 3D motion system. The back kick motion was collected by two Redleke cameras (60Hz). Kinematics data proceed by Kwon 3D motion system. The accelerometer was fixed on a kicking bag (20kg). Biovision system and DasyLab software were used to recode acceleration and calculate the force value. The results indicated that the peak of knee angular velocity for the attack leg appear in the hitting to the kicking bag. The support leg has two fighting patterns. One is attacking pattern which the support leg slid during attack phase. The other is counterattack pattern which the support leg jumped during the attack phase. The movement distance of attacking pattern is significant greater than that of counterattack pattern. There was significant positive correlation among the angular velocity, force and movement distance. According to the above revealed that the angular velocity of knee for support leg relate with force closely. The study shows the support leg influence the taekwondo fighting pattern and performance play the important role on taekwondo back kick movement.
