The objective of this study was to evaluate the immunomodulatory effects of the freeze-dried powder obtained from the water extract of Chinese medicinal plant Echinops grijsii. In vitro immunomodulatory experiments showed that E. grijsii (0-400 μg/mL) stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages to produce NO and secrete TNF-α in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, E. grijsii significantly (P<0.05) promoted the IFN-γ secretion of mouse splenocytes. The results showed that the water extract of E. grijsii had immunomodulatory functions as well as potentials in related medicinal applications.
