Sound archives are a holding of music and spoken which remind the common memory becoming an integral component of contemporary life and culture. In the past, the insufficient awareness of sound recordings leaves the collections to scatter in non-specialized institutions. Most of the collections are at the risk of damage. It is time to pay attention to the preservation of sound recordings. This paper explained the situation of sound archives in terms of collection acquisition, cataloguing, storage, digitization and access. A brief introduction of the collection and management among repository institutions will be summarized. This paper is expected to provide suggestions for formulating resource access and collaboration in the future.
