High-speed Abrasion Experimental Research of an Abradable Seal Rubber

並列摘要

The abradable seal rubber has been used in fans and booster stage rotors to improve aero-engines efficiency and to reduce the specific fuel consumption. To evaluate the abradable performance and to optimize the design of seal rubber, a high-speed abradable tester was developed with 520 ms^(-1) maximum blade tip speed and 5-2000μms^(-1) abraded sample incursion rate. Abrasion tests were carried out under different conditions to evaluate seal rubber abradability. The results showed that abrasive wear and pattern wear were the predominant wear mechanisms when a rubber sample was scraped by a metal blade, and the change of wear mechanisms was reflected by rubbing force curves. Gradual changes of rubbing forces with the increase of incursion depth was the characteristic of abrasive wear, and force curves showed mutations when pattern wear happens. Tangential force decreases with increasing blade tip velocity when abrasive wear occurs, and it increases when pattern wear occurs.
