This paper provides a few thoughts concerning some historical events touched on in Professor Li's "Centennial History of Linguistics in R.O.C.". Most of the events took place before 1949, including the background of the dawning of modern Chinese linguistics, historical periodization, research institutes, leading scholars, and so on. It also examines the factors that have influenced and may continue to influence the developments of modern Chinese linguistics. It also presents the author's personal opinions.
