Is poetry for children passé? If it is true, can a fashionable genre, picture books, do any help to its innovation? This article will survey picture books based on works by Yang-Huan (楊喚), the most popular poet for children in Taiwan, from "The Kingdom in Fairy Tale" in 1966, "Summer Night" and "Fruit's Party" in 1988, to "Where is Spring?", "Homes", "Summer Night" and "Fruit's Party" in 2004. The main purpose here is to explore the language transformation of Yang-Huan's Poems for Children from text to images, including structure of poetic language, focalization, and melody both in the original text and in the picture books. Eventually, this exploration tries to reflect: will picture books expand the development of poetry for children. or restrict it?
