In the second stage of the Korea War, Toyotomi Hideyoshi tried to effect a "graceful" exit from the conflict while maintaining the alleged superiority of Japan. Korea, however, devised a far-sighted diplomatic strategy that drew the Ming forces into the War. Toyotimi failed in his retreat attempt, and, with his death, so did Japan's war efforts. The international order forged by China and Korea continued to be upheld.
