Nowadays, wireless communication technologies have become widespread in the world, and the mobile phone performs a leading role in wireless communication. The pursuit of manufacturing smaller and better cell phones increases day by day and combining multi-systems in a single smart phone is the current trend in recent years. Thus, the antenna design for handheld devices turns into a challenge. The location of the antenna, the material used, and the size of the antenna are the main concerns in antenna designs. This thesis concentrates on dual layer antenna design on the Printed Circuit Board for cellular phones with two resonant mechanisms, such as PIFA and patch resonance. Details of the design are presented. Simulated and measured antenna characteristics are also presented and compared with each other.
