This article is proposed to discuss the path dependence on promotion and examine the theory of path dependence on promotion ─ path dependence effect and heterogeneity of ability ,through analyzing the HR information of a local manufacturer with method of Event History Analysis . The result shows that path-dependence effect explains the path dependence on promotion instead of ability . Moreover , this path-dependence effect is meanwhile supported by two models─Tournament Model and Fast-track promotion . This result is also consistent with the HR manager’s statements in the company
