According to one ODM networking company’s demand for developing wireless networking utilities for a variety of network interface cards, this study proposes a generic development tool to quickly customize a wireless networking utility based on a client’s requirements using the modular design concept. The proposed development tool includes a core utility module and a user interface shell module. A new networking utility can be quickly developed by either reusing the core utility module to communicate with an array of NIC drivers or constructing a customized user interface using the user interface shell module. The core utility module needs to be changed only if the protocol between the network binding interface and NIC drivers has changed. This study measures the quality of this tool on coupling and complexity. The results showed that the proposed tool out-performs the old tool that the ODM company previously used.
