代工廠商成長的能耐與限制

摘要


雖然近年來有關於代工廠商成長的議題愈來愈受關注,大多數相關的研究卻忽視“為什麼”許多代工廠商在延伸能耐與建立品牌時會面臨掙扎與失敗的問題。再者,過去研究也未進一步討論代工廠商“如何”面對與管理成長過程中所面臨的問題和限制。因此,本研究將藉由個案研究,探究代工廠商在能耐延伸(研究一)與品牌建立(研究二)時所面臨的限制與能降低這些限制的解決方案。 藉由對一家以複合材料為發展基礎的代工廠商所進行的個案研究,本研究嘗試探索代工廠商在能耐延伸過程中所面臨的限制。另一方面,本研究採用四家在資訊電子業中具領導地位,同時已發展自有品牌的個案公司來探討代工廠商自有品牌時所面臨的限制與解決方案。

Although the growth of contract manufacturers has been an object of study for a long time, it appears that most research neglects arguments on “why” many contract manufacturers have struggled or failed to leverage existing competence and build their own-brand. Moreover, what seems to be lacking in past research is an exploration into “how” contract manufacturers manage these constraints well. Hence, by utilizing case studies, this research further explores the constraints of contract manufacturers’ growth including competence leveraging (study I) and own-brand building (study II), and provides solutions for diminishing these constraints. An in-depth case study of a composite-material based contract manufacturer is used to illustrate the process of how a contract manufacturer may face and handle these difficulties while leveraging its existing competence. On the other hand, four electronics industrial companies, each of which is famous and a leading contract manufacturer in Taiwan that has developed its own-brand products, are used to provide a comparable insight on the constraints of own-brand building.
