Although the townships of Hengchun Peninsula shared the same melodies with one another, with the changes of time and space, and the differences of cultural environment and social transformation, each township had developed a unique way of singing and furthermore had shaped their own distinctive traditions. Among these townships, Manjhou is particularly the most obvious one. Since Manjhou township is a self-contained village on the Hengchun Peninsula, it is not easy for external development. However, it is right because its geographical environment, Manjhou township had independently developed its own musical system. Through singers’ highlights of local musical style in different interpretations, and the promotion of Folksong Association, people in Manjhou twonship have been able to sing “their own songs”. Therefore, I would like to explore the example of Manjhou folksongs’ standing outside of the Hengchun Peninsula and being a regional music in Taiwan through the analyses of its melody, rhythm, and singing idioms.
