A series of the transition metal complexes {[Ag(L)(NO3)]}∞ (1), {[Ag(L)(ClO4)]}∞ (2), {[Ag(L)(ClO4)]}∞ (3), {[Ag2(L2.5)(SO4)]}∞(4), {[Cu(L)(ClO4)2]}∞ (5), [PtLCl2] (6), [PdLCl2]•H2O (7), [Hg2(L)(Cl)4] (8) [where L= N,N΄-di(2-dipyridyl)adipoamide] have been prepared by the reactions of transition metal compounds (AgNO3, AgClO4, Ag2SO4, Cu(ClO4)2, PtCl2, PdCl2, HgCl2) with L. All the complexes have been structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography, confirming that 1-5 are coordination polymers whereas 6 and 7 are metalacycles, and 8 is a binuclear compound. Complexes 1 and 3 form zigzag chains which are interlinked through a series of Ag•••O interactions and C-H•••O and N-H•••O hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 forms helical chains which are interlinked through a series of C-H•••Ag and Ag•••O interactions and N-H•••O hydrogen bonds. Complex 4 forms cosine wave chain which are interlinked through a series of Ag•••O interactions and C-H•••O hydrogen bonds. Complex 5 forms zigzag chains which are interlinked through a series of Cu•••O interactions and N-H•••O hydrogen bonds. Complexes 6 and 7 form thirteen-members rings which are interlinked through a series of Pd•••Cl interactions and C-O•••H and C-H•••Cl hydrogen bonds. Complex 8 forms binuclear complexes which are interlinked through a series of Hg•••O interactions and C-H•••Cl hydrogen bonds.
