Regular exercise has been recommended as a mean to pain-easing and health-maintenance for working adults. However, prior researches generally assume that positive resources that generate from regular exercise can be transferred to other settings, but how employees benefit from regular exercise in work domains is still unclear. Therefore, this study takes a qualitative approach to test the positive effects of regular exercise on employees’ job tasks. By interviewing employees who exercise on a regular basis in companies with different levels of support for employees’ regular exercise, the present study finds that personal thriving experience during regular exercise can indeed be transferred to work settings to stimulate thriving at work, and that channels for the transfer of thriving across the two settings increase as the levels of company support for exercise elevate. Results of this study suggest a revised model of thriving at work, and other implications and future research directions are discussed.
