This thesis aims to discuss the cause and influence of the 19 September 2006 coup d'etat in Thailand. The 919 military coup holds its crucial position in the history of the political change in Thailand. This military coup not only topples the prime minister Thaksin, who is the first elected from democratic election in Thailand and completes his first four year term, but also ends the period from 1991, which arouses no military coups, and closes the experiment of new politics based on election politics which all circles in Thailand attempt to set by the Constitution of 1997. This thesis first describes the development of the political change in Thailand from the enthronement of Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX to the eruption of the 919 coup d'etat in 2006. In addition, under basic recognition of Thailand’s political change, the thesis explores the cause of the 919 Coup D'etat and analyzes the meaning and influence of such military coup toward Thailand’s political history.
