摘要

本論文共分七章，以筆者翻譯《第二意見》(Second Opinions)一書之經驗為基礎，探討非醫學專業譯者進行醫學翻譯可能遇到之問題，並提出解決問題的方法。第一章為筆者接下本書翻譯之緣由及本論文之研究動機與寫作架構。第二章「本書介紹」簡介作者古柏曼醫師生平，歸納本書內容大意，並提供網路上之原著書評。第三章「翻譯策略與流程」，提出本書翻譯策略考量，並簡述各階段翻譯過程。第四章「非醫學背景譯者從事醫學相關翻譯可能遇到之問題」，以本書之翻譯為例，分類探討可能遇到的問題類型。第五章「如何解決問題」，同樣以本書之翻譯經驗為基礎，針對上一章的問題提出有效的解決方式。第六章「譯文評析」，除記錄審閱醫師及編輯之意見與評價，亦提出對本書譯文之自我檢討。第七章為個人建議，並總結全篇論文。

The main purpose of this thesis is to discuss problems encountered by and feasible solutions for translators without medical background in medicine-related translation from the experience of translating Second Opinions. The first chapter states the motive for and the structure of this thesis. The second chapter gives a brief introduction of the author, Dr. Jerome Groopman, as well as a summary of the book on a chapter-by-chapter basis. The third chapter describes the strategies used and the process of the translation. The fourth chapter categorizes the problems translators without medical background may encounter in translating medicine-related texts. The fifth chapter suggests feasible solutions for the problems. The sixth chapter includes an interview with the reviewer, an analysis of the editors’ correction, and an introspection of the translation. The seventh chapter provides some suggestions and concludes this thesis.
