Sex crime has become one of the important social issues in the modern societies. Most of the studies related to sex offenders focused on the developmental factors or treatment programs, and only few studies discussed the adjustment issues of sex offenders in prisons. Previous research stated that the sexual offenders might become the potential victims of prison violence, and could cause the adjustment problems during incarceration. Among the 1,505 responded offenders, 58 sexual offenders were included in the analyses. Based on the demographic characteristics (age, marital status, crime history, sentence length, and served time) of each sex offender, 58 non-sexual offenders were selected as compare group examined the adjustment issues between two offender groups. Also, fear of crime and victim experience were employed as mediators between types of offenders and adjustment to prison. The results indicated that the sexual offenders had higher fear of crime than non-sexual offenders, but there was no difference between sexual and non-sexual offenders on their victimization during incarceration. This study also found that sexual offenders did not differ from non-sexual offenders in role violations and complaints of health issues in prison. However, sexual offenders had lower life dissatisfaction than non-sexual offenders. This study showed the relationships between the types of crime and adjustment problems were not mediated by the fear of crime or victim experience . The results, which sexual offenders did not differ from non-sexual offenders in most prison adjustment variables, could be attributed to the compulsory treatment program and special wards for sexual offenders. Because of this, the discrimination against sexual offenders and bullying behavior were decreased dramatically.
