We have constructed a model, by using numerical analysis, to find several parameters of an Er/Yb co-doped fiber amplifier and to simulate the characteristics of the fiber amplifier. Many simulations of fiber amplifiers are so complex that they require the knowledge of many parameters of the fiber amplifier. For this reason, their usefulness is limited. In this thesis, we develop a general model for rare-earth ion-doped fiber amplifiers and establish an analytic process that can be used to analyze different fiber amplifiers by using only a few pieces of experimental data. When investigating how the performance of a fiber amplifier is influenced by varying a particular parameter, this model makes it possible to find the answer quickly, which can be verified with experimental results. We can also optimize the experimental results by using this model.
