In Chinese Medical Orthopedics, Manipulations is practical and hard to evaluate by taking written tests. Therefore, it is important for learners to have an appropriate assessment mechanism. Many researches also indicate that written tests can not entirely demonstrate the performance of clinical skills. The purpose of this study is to probe into the ways of assessment for Manipulation of Chinese Medical Orthopedics learners and its relation with learning effect. The participants are 98 students majoring in Chinese Medicine in Central Taiwan. After finishing the course of Manipulation of Chinese Medical Orthopedics, they took written tests and assessments of practice respectively. Then they filled in self-evaluation questionnaires about familiarity of Manipulation of Chinese Medical Orthopedics. Results: Except for ”Twisting Manipulation”, there is no significant difference (p>0.05) beween the experimental group and control group in 63 valid questionnaires. It indicates that the ways of assessment has no effect on the familiarity of Manipulation of Chinese Medical Orthopedics. In addition, we have ranked the familiarity of these 15 Orthopedic Manipulations, and ”Wrenching Waist Manipulation”, ”Carrying on Back Manipulation” and ”Whirling and Wagging Manipulation” are the last three ones that learners are familiar with. Thus we may have to pay more attention in teaching these manipulations.
