華人四地大學研究競爭力分析

Research Competitiveness of Universities in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore

摘要


本文採用Essential Science Indicators (ESI)資料庫數據,藉由論文數(Papers)及世界排名、被引次數(Citations)及世界排名、高被引論文數(Highly Cited Papers)及所占比例、平均被引次數(Citations Per Paper)與其世界排名、教師平均論文數、學門活躍性指數(Activity Index,簡稱AI)及相對影響力指數(CPP/FCSm)等指標,分析華人四地大學學術研究競爭力;本文發現確實可藉由學門活躍性指數瞭解各校發展重點,並由相對影響力指數瞭解各學門的大致研究水平。整體而言,華人四地大學以香港及新加坡學術表現最為優異,質量發展均衡,多數領域達世界水準;臺灣及大陸則以論文數量較為突出,其中臺灣論文品質較大陸稍佳,但兩地論文品質均仍待加強。就各地表現優異之學門而言,香港學校以經濟及商學、社會科學∕一般、精神病學∕心理學門見長,新加坡以新加坡國立大學最為突出,臺灣、大陸與新加坡三地學校皆強於理工類學門,其中臺灣於農業科學、藥理與毒物學及神經科學與行為等學門之表現在華人四地中最為突出。

This paper studies the research competitiveness of universities in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore via journal paper based indicators drawn from Essential Science Indicators (ESI). Indicators used in this study include each university's number of papers and its world ranking, number of citations and its world ranking, number and percentage of the Highly Cited Papers, Citations Per Paper (CPP) and its world ranking, Papers Per Staffer, Activity Index, and CPP/FCSm. Analysis found that Activity Index and CPP/FCSm were useful indicators for recognizing each university's emphasized fields of development and the level of performance in each research field. In summary, of the four regions, Hong Kong and Singapore have better performance in terms of quantity and quality of papers; many fields have high-level of achievement and show global competitiveness. On the other hand, although Taiwan and China have published a good quantity of papers, the paper quality needs improvement. Taiwan performs slightly better than China in terms of paper quality. Each region shows strengths in different research fields. Hong Kong performs well in economics, business, social sciences, and psychology/psychiatry. Taiwan, China, and Singapore perform better in science and engineering. In particularly, Taiwan has outstanding performance in agricultural sciences, pharmacology/toxicology, neurosciences, and behavioral sciences.
