A Performance Study of Typography Design in Tabloid Newspapers

摘要

In the past few years, in order to maintain the advertiser's income, the publishers adjust the readers' demand in competitive environment. The arrivals of MRT-daily tabloid newspapers make commuters have Upaper and Sharp daily to read. Therefore, the passengers will not feel boring, and it also can maintain the advertisement income.
If tabloid wants to grab the readers' eyes, the most important lesson will be on the layout. So, it can find out the suitable tabloid. The study is to confer the compose of tabloid's essential factors and use experimentation methods to fine out the best field, typeface, and font in tabloid. Besides, the study provides the best combinations for tabloid.
The study use experimentation methods to know the layouts and designs in tabloid. About this study you can have the results as below:
1. From the fonts and typefaces two-ways interactions, we can know the subjective and objective results in this experiment have obvious effects.
2. The tabloid use three or four fields in layout, it has no obvious effects to the readers, because the each line has less than five words variation.
3. When the tabloid use three or four fields, whether you use what kinds of typefaces, the font use 10.5 pt is easy to read, and the legibility is high.
4. We can know the subjective and objective results, the font's legibility is 10.5pt＞11pt＞10pt.
5. The tabloid use four fields to design and Tahoma with 10.5pt are popular for readers.
