Chryseobacterium Indologenes Peritonitis in Peritoneal Dialysis: A Rare and Difficult Case

摘要

Peritonitis, which is caused by microorganisms or irritating chemicals, is a major complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD). Chryseobacterium indologenes (C. indologenes) is common in nature, but rarely occurs in PD-related peritonitis and exhibits resistance to several antibiotics. We report a case of an end-stage renal disease female patient who was diagnosed with C. indologenes-associated peritonitis. The patient was treated with reduced concentrations of trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX) due to gastrointestinal discomfort. She did not respond to the treatment and had to resort to catheter removal. Studies on TMP/SMX dosing regimen are limited, thus its efficacy and safety should be assessed with caution.
