利用赫溫氏牙根上皮鞘細胞促進牙周再生之組織工程:初步成果

The Preliminary Results of Using Hertwig's Epithelial Root Sheath (HERS) Cells for Tissue Engineering in Periodontal Regeneration

摘要

To achieve complete periodontal regeneration, it is necessary to recapitulate the process of embryogenesis and morphogenesis involved in the formation of the tissue. The objective of this study was to evaluate the possibility of Hertwig's epithelial root sheath (HERS) cells on promoting the periodontal regeneration and inducing formation of de novo cementum in vivo. Immortomouse-derived HERS cells were delivered to a modified periodontal fenestration defect model in the maxilla of 5 Wistar rats to accomplish a split mouth controlled design. Maxillas were processed for histological examination after one month. The pilot results showed that the amount of collagen fibers aligned in a direction perpendicular to the root surfaces of the HERS group was statistically significant than the control group (p<0.05). Although de novo cementum was not found in any groups, it revealed the potential healing ability of the HERS group and implied that HERS cells might help regeneration of the surrounding periodontal tissues.
