Congenital Anomalous Systemic Artery Without Sequestration: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

摘要

An anomalous systemic arterial supply to the normal tracheobronchial tree without sequestration is a rare congenital abnormality. We present the case of a 39-year-old man with an anomalous systemic artery from the thoracic aorta, together with an accompanying pulmonary artery, to the normal basal segment of the left lower lung. This abnormality is often diagnosed following investigation of an incidental imaging finding, because most patients are asymptomatic. Differential diagnoses may include bronchopulmonary sequestration, pulmonary arteriovenous malformation and congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation on chest plain films. According to the various perfusion (arterial blood supply) and ventilation (tracheobronchial tree communication) conditions presented on advanced computed tomography (CT) scans with 3D volume rendering reconstruction, the condition can be diagnosed correctly.
