Purpose: To explore the influence of vibration training combined with unstable-surface training for 4-8 weeks on the speed and agility of gymnasts. Methods: A total of 16 gymnasts were randomly assigned to high-amplitude (4 mm, 9 Hz) or low-amplitude (2 mm, 9 Hz) groups. After being tested for speed and agility, each gymnast undertook an 8-week training program (three sessions per week, 20 minutes per session). The training consisted of the gymnasts bending their knees and standing on balance boards above a vibration platform. The gymnasts received speed and agility tests after 4, 6, and 8 weeks of training, meaning that they received speed and agility tests four times in total over the course of the experiment. The data collected from these tests were analyzed through two-way analysis of variance based on a mixed design. Results: Variances between and within the two groups were nonsignificant after 4 weeks. After 6 weeks, no significant difference was observed between the two groups; however, the high-amplitude group's scores for the speed and agility tests were significantly higher than those of the pretests. Similarly, after 8 weeks no significant differences were observed between the two groups, but the high-amplitude group's scores for the speed and agility tests remained significantly higher than those of the pretests. Conclusion: A 6- to 8-week high-amplitude vibration training program combined with unstable-surface training may be employed to enhance gymnasts' speed and agility.
