This review paper examines the application of the hope theory and mental toughness in positive psychology for tennis today. Hope emphasizes on an athlete’s perceptibility which integrates pathway and agency thinking. An athlete’s way of coming up with different methods and strategies to achieve their desired goals is what we call pathway thinking. Agency thinking is the motivation to pursue these goals by utilizing these different methods and strategies. Mental toughness is an unshakeable perseverance and conviction toward some goals despite pressure or adversity. Past studies have indicated that both hope and mental toughness were true indicators in helping enhance the performance of tennis players. The goal of this article, based on previous studies of hope and mental toughness, is to provide examples and practical applications for tennis coaches worldwide. This article also includes future research focuses for sport psychologists.
