Hakka funeral Three-Consecrationis commonly equated with Yuji by researchers who regard the custom performing Three-Consecration before burying, frequently called in local gazetteers Tangji, as a tradition existing in ancient China. Though still performing nowadays in funeral and worship ceremonies, its origin, historically speaking, has become an open question with a variety of theories, which include: 1) occurring in ancient texts as early as Northern Song dynasty; 2) ceremonially derived from Zhu Xi's Jiali; 3) pertaining to the revival of Confucianism during the period of Zheng Guan in Tang dynasty. In this regard, studies in this article will be concentrated on the relations between Tangji and tradition rituals, as well as onentanglements, which are commonly taken as something affected by social environment, among Tangji, Zudian and Yuji.
