摘要

The purpose of this study is to measure school efficiency with different measures and explore the usage of improvement information as benchmarking for inefficient schools. The authors choose the elementary schools in Penghu County in Taiwan for samples, and measure the school efficiency with two distinct methods, which are stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) and data envelopment analysis (DEA). The improvement information after SFA and DEA measuring include the benchmark schools, target output, and slacks for inputs. The authors integrate the results and apply to enhance the school efficiency. The conclusions of this study are as follows: (1) The consistency in results of two measures identify the benchmark schools; (2) SFA provides each school with individual stochastic frontier which portrays the ideal output; (3) The slack variable analysis by DEA provides inefficient schools with extra inputs and ideal output; (4) The guideline of applying the results integrated from SFA and DEA to benchmarking is proposed. Based on the findings, the authors provide some suggestions and recommendations for further studies.
