當代講道學,何去何從?論「新講道學」的崛起和特色

A Study of the Rise and the Characteristics of the "New Homiletic" in North America

並列摘要

The "New Homiletic" is a revolutionary movement in homiletics in North America that began in the 1960s and has significantly impacted the development of contemporary homiletics. It has brought paradigmatic shifts in preaching that turn toward the listener, the narrative, and the human experience. Instead of an exposition of the objective, timeless truth in the biblical text, preaching is regarded as an experiential and transformational encounter between text and hearer. In the 21st century, the far-reaching influences of the New Homiletic have extended beyond the continent of North America and can be seen in recent Chinese homilietical works. This paper will provide an informative survey of the representative preachers, the characteristics, and the theological presuppositions of the New Homiletic. It will also discuss the factors that contributed to the rise of this homiletical movement in American Christianity in the latter half of the 20th century. The concluding section of this paper will focus on the lessons that Chinese preachers could learn from the modern history of preaching in North America. It is hoped that this paper will help increase interest in the study of the current trends of contemporary homiletics and strengthen the pulpit ministry of the Chinese churches.
