Chun-chieh Huang has dedicated himself to Mencianism studies for more than thirty years, and his Mencianism study is the most important achievement in the field of Mencianism studies today. Huang's Mencianism study can be divided into three stages which are interrelated yet distinct. In the first stage, he analyzed the main ideas in Mencius' thought expressed in the book Mencius. In the second stage, he discussed the development of Mencius studies in the Chinese intellectual history. In the third stage, he reviewed and analyzed the development of Mencius studies in Japan's Tokugawa period. Huang has not only proposed a Hermeneutics with characteristics of Chinese culture based on his discussion of the interpretation of Mencius' thought in history, but also established a pluralistic view and a methodology for comparative study with the classics at its core in East Asia.
